to our Classroom!

Here you'll find lots of helpful information for actors, directors, teachers, playwrights, etc., all about providing the best theatre experience for kids.  Don't forget to check out the fun, FREE classroom scenes we've made available!

Classroom: Theatre Code of Ethics

We wish every theatre student was taught and tested on these guidelines before they were ever allowed to set foot on a stage. Here's to the glorious Traditions of Theatre!

Classroom: Performing for Young Audiences

Performing for child audiences is a LOT different than performing for adult audiences. It's a specialized performance skill. Gone are the days when you'd hear an actor say, "I'll do children's theatre until a REAL job comes along." Read our tips and guidelines.

Classroom: Acting

Here are some general acting exercises for Middle School ages and up.

Classroom: Creative Dramatics

You can buy many books about Creative Dramatics-- all having a different approach to igniting the imaginative powers in kids. We've collected some of our favorite lessons and activities that we've used over the years for thousands of kids.

Classroom: Learning Lines

We never had this course in college! A collection of tips and real-world examples of different tricks to help an actor learn his/her lines. These aren't "cheats"-- they're simple ways to get those words engrained into your head.

Classroom: Auditioning

Not so much a "how-to" as it is a "how-NOT-to." This started out as a college paper on auditioning. We thought it was pretty cool, so we had Kevin M Reese adapt it to offer here. "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" is a seemingly cynical director's wake-up call to actors.

Classroom: Free Classroom Scenes

We have a collection of short scenes, all written by Kevin M Reese for his acting classes back when he was teaching at the Wichita Children's Theatre-- and they're all FREE! Most are two-person scenes that work well in classroom situations. They're fun for younger actors (8-12 years) giving them opportunity for learning a few lines, working a scene and team-building. There are also a couple scenes for older actors (Middle/High School). Check them out!

Classroom: Video Taping Tips

Yeah, we know: nobody does it-- but everybody does it! Nowadays, theatres need video recordings of their shows to help them get grants and funding. Even though videotaping is expressly forbidden in most Performance Licenses, archive recordings are USUALLY passed off with a "don't ask-don't tell" attitude. (Did you know that KMR Scripts allows theatres to videotape our shows for archive purposes-- AND you can let your actors have a copy of it, too). Here are some tips for getting good archive recordings of your stage shows.

Classroom: FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions covering many different topics. Acting, Performing for child Audiences, Producing, Playwrighting...

Classroom: For Teachers

A collection of resources for Drama Teachers and Creative Dramatics Teachers. Many of these would be useful for public school teachers looking for Creative Drama/Drama activities for their classrooms. Check it out!

Classroom: Playwrighting

Kevin M Reese is a working, professional playwright. We asked him to provide us with his thoughts and tips on Playwrighting.
